M1 Widefield
Details for M1 Widefield
- WO 110 Flourostar, SXV H9C, Losmandy Titan
- 40 x 2 minutes unguided
Notes:
After looking at some of the SCT images of M1, I am growing convinced that it is not a good widefield object.

Messier 51
Details for Messier 51
- Williams 110, 45 X 4 minutes with SXV guider
- Losmandy Titan, SXV H9C
Comments
Of all astronomical objects the "galaxy collisions" are my favourites. Still can't get my head around what transpires or the scale involved when an event like this occurs.
All of the images taken with this configuration in 2006 have flat fielding issues. I am working on solving this problem.

Messier 106
Details for M106
- Williams 110, 80 X 4 minutes, with SXV guider Televue Ranger
- Losmandy Titan, SXV H9C
Comments
Recently, gradients have become a real issue for me. I have had to crop this image muting the effect I was hoping for. There is good data to work with - just have to go back to the drawing board to bring it out. Optec focuser on the way thank heavens.

Messier 3
Details for Messier 3
- Williams 110, 30 x 150 seconds
- Losmandy Titan, SXV H9C with guider
Comments
I had noticed an online ccd imaging calculator that suggested a 2 1/2 minute exposure for my configuration and conditions and it seems to work well for objects of this type. Using an Optec focuser at long last and what a difference it makes.
I take heart in that clusters need pristine imaging conditions and razor sharp focus and those two were present for this trip.

Messier 81 Bode's Galaxy
Details for Messier 81
- Williams 110, 45 x 2minutes
- Losmandy Titan, SXV H9C
Comments
I have always liked this object - particularily when imagers tend to ramp up the active starbirth regions. Would like to add more data to this one though, along with some half decent flat fielding.

Messier 82
Details for Messier 82
- Williams 110, 45 x 2minutes
- Losmandy Titan, SXV H9C
Comments
In order to bring out the activity at the galaxy center, this image IMO was oversaturated.

NGC 1977
Details for NGC 1977
- 30 X 2 minutes unguided, Losmandy Titan, SXV H9C
- 8" Schmidt Newtonian
Comments
With my set up there is a limited amount of data I can gather on this object. Instead of bringing out the rich deep purple of the "running man", I opted to bring out the emission nebula below.

NGC 2403
Details for NGC 2403
- 45 X 2 minutes unguided, 8" Schmidt Newtonian
- Losmandy Titan, SXV H9C
Comments
Still using manual focus but the F4 Newtonian surprized me to the upside.

NGC 4565
Details for NGC 4565
- Williams 110, SXV H9C with Televue Ranger guiding,
- Losmandy Titan, 60 X 2.5 minutes
Comments:
This data was reworked in 2007. I tried to get a decent background balance. Still have blue star bloat though.
